Abstract

The authors has analyzed the results of 159 single-step esophagoplasties conducted in the course of treatment of esophageal carcinomas. Mediastinal lymph node dissection has approved to be a significant (p < 0,05) risk factor for postoperative ischemic bronchitis and subsequent pneumonia development. Technique of catheterization of the trachea has been proposed for prevention of these complications. It has been estimated whether this procedure could be effective enough for this purpose.
